Peach Fuzz – how much sweetness can be contained in a color?

By Francesca Vizzari

Pantone 2024

Well yes, the PANTONE Color of the Year 2024 has arrived a few months ago.
As every year, the comments are varied: some like it, some don't, too much, too little, better was expected, they overdid it, etc.
But do you know all that “drives” the choice of this color?
It influences trends in various sectors, from fashion to makeup, from design to graphics.
A world around us that is perceived, sometimes delicately, sometimes with great boldness.
All of us will be influenced by it, it will range from the yarn of tights to the cover of school notebooks, to the packaging of food.
Pantone, in addition to selecting the guide color, also provides about thirty colors to match with the color of the year.
These are usually five ready-made palettes, either bright or neutral.

We start from it, and as often happens here, we try to play.

A premise, what do I think about it?
I find the pairing of the name with the color fantastic, "Fuzz" refers to the fuzz on a peach's skin, and I believe that the color itself combined with this adjective perfectly conveys an idea, the sweetness, the softness, a cuddle, a gentle caress.
I like it, a color that hasn't been around in the world of interiors for a while, between peach, salmon, and apricot, the end of the '90s led us to no longer love these shades, but after a long break, I am extremely happy to have it available again.
It's very versatile, and I like to imagine it appearing in the most classic architectural contexts, as well as imagining it among the textures of natural and crumpled linens.
The light tone of terracotta, of certain corals, or simply of the sand grains of some beaches.

But now let's try to go beyond, it is Peach Fuzz, a color that allows for different interpretations, my goal is to present it to you combined in completely different styles and moods.

THE PALETTE OF NATURE
The tones of beige and the shades of terracotta, I imagine it with grandma's furniture in an old farmhouse.
Simple objects, the warmth of a Cloe Terracotta rug, vases in raw ceramic and marbled enamels.

THE PALETTE OF POETRY
Ivory, powder, caffe latte (with a lot of milk).
A welcoming minimalism, wood, bouclé, inlaid accessories, and vases reminiscent of fossils, a Cloe Rope rug under bare feet.

THE PALETTE OF COURAGE
By now you know that in my world of color, courage must never be lacking; daring is one of the words I use most to argue my proposals. Courage doesn't mean jumping without a parachute but even just trying to see what's behind an alley. Being curious is courage, trying is courage, so let's try.
Electric blue, lavender, and ochre.
I envision this palette with a simple but fun and playful style, with unique details and textures.

THE FASHION PALETTE
We are experts, we know that fashion and interior go hand in hand, so let's try to break the mold remembering silk shirts, flared pants, scarves, and teardrop glasses, '70s style.
Sinuous lines in the accessories and in the round Cloe Teal rug.
Make yourself comfortable, flip through this palette with a cocktail in hand.

I could go on forever, I love looking for opportunities, new roads, possibilities but to conclude I would like to add a reflection.
If we like a color but are not fully convinced by it, we can always deconstruct it, how?
For example, by incorporating it into an accessory and not necessarily on large furnishings and walls, or by mixing it with delicate patterns.
I tried taking the NATURAL PALETTE and added wallpaper.
With this choice, I emphasized both the main color and the mood.

Try it yourself, and if you don't have professional digital skills or tools, look for images, print, cut out, and create your own collage, you will be surprised at how simple and fun it is.
